Umbrella Therapies

Rhiannon Duggan Integrative Counsellor (MBACP) – Ages 11 upwards, parents, families, couples

I have worked with young people for 30 years as a qualified youth and community worker, counsellor, school teacher and volunteer. I am passionate about what I do. In an increasingly interconnected world, counselling can be a chance for young people to stop and to understand who they are and why their feelings may have become problematic at times. I recently worked for five years as a secondary school counsellor for years 7-13 and I also run a private practice in Wotton-Under-Edge and Dursley for adolescents, parents, adult clients and couples.

My training is as an integrative counsellor, which means that I see each client as unique and work with different techniques for each person.

These can include:

  • talking
  • EFT to free energy that is blocked through pain and distress
  • drawing
  • relaxation and breathing
  • role-play or using figures to look at family patterns and behaviours
  • I also use CBT techniques that focus on how we think and behave.
  • Psycho-education where I aim to inform the young person of basic mind and brain function in order to understand how and why they feel what they do.

These have been very useful in school work when dealing with young people experiencing anxiety, depression or self-harming behaviour. They are often relieved to realise that there is a way out of the feelings that can seem overwhelming to them.

I have completed a further diploma in trauma work and recently, level 1 and 2 EFT training. This enables me to work with traumatic memories and experiences from a relational perspective, based in neuroscience and also through energy work. I have also undertaken training in eating disorders to strengthen my skills working in this area. I recently completed an advanced training in Couple and Family work to enhance my counselling with parents and families. I also research and take professional development on issues of gender diversity in young people.

I hold an enhanced clearance  DBS certificate

Because of my varied work background I have experience of working with young people in a wide variety of situations including:

  • homelessness
  • drug use
  • family breakdown and divorce
  • school alienation and refusal
  • anxiety, depression or self-harm
  • bullying
  • friendship difficulties
  • performance and exam anxiety
  • self esteem
  • future choices
  • conflict and anger within families

I am also experienced in running small group work and am available to work with siblings in counselling as well as sessions solely with Parents to look at blocks, patterns and difficulties with family life. I also offer family counselling that may include parents and adult children or adult siblings wanting to improve relationships.
